Anime Quick Hits (1)

I had several ideas for mini-topics, that weren’t enough for a full article, so I thought I did this in a quick-hit, omnibus style. Let’s do it!

(A reminder: This is part of my 12 Days of AniTAY 2018. Big thanks to Zarnyx for suggesting to go ahead and do it in mainline-TAY, and RedStripe118 for putting me on to the 12 Days of Anime idea in the first place.)

Alright, then let’s start with a classic: Subs or Dubs?

Mostly subs. Not necessarily because they’re ‘superior’, though. For me, it’s in large part, which version I see first. For instance, I can’t watch Cowboy Bebopor Samurai Champloo as a sub, cuz for me, the dub is *it*. Also cuz Steve Blum kicks ass. Other series that I watched first as subs, I’ll sometimes do a re-watch in the dub if I can to try and appreciate more when I don’t have to keep reading things. But that can be tricky – while some series, like Sword Art Online, I can handle, in others such as Full Metal Alchemist and Space Patrol Luluco, I can’t do it because the main characters don’t sound ‘right’ (in both of these examples, they sound too mature for the character). My general opinion though is, whatever floats your boat. 

You posted already about anime themes. Is it true you have a whole bunch of them on your playlist?

Yes.

So, does that mean you like J-pop and similar?

Outside of said anime themes, no, not really. I guess I don’t *dislike* it any more than any other pop music, I just think for me, the anime themes kinda get by based on their association with shows that I like.

But you liked Re:Zero. Why don’t you have any of those themes on your list?

Honestly? Cuz since they didn’t run them like half the time, I can’t remember any of them!

Okay, whatever. Moving on, you’ve gotten into the Fate series recently, correct?

Yup. I’ve seen the original Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Zero, Fate/Apocrypha, Fate/Extra, and I’m working on Unlimited Blade Works. I’ve also seen Carnival Phantasm and Emiya’s Kitchen.

So, what’s it all about? Can you explain it to me?

Uhhh… not in a “quick hit”. Waifu wars personified, maybe?

Fine then, who’s your waifu? Rin, Saber, or Sakura?

I dunno. Rin, maybe. But ponytail Rin is best Rin, not twin-tails.

Moving on: Bear sleeping bag?

You really wish that PECO from New Game!! was a real game, don’t you?

Damn right I do.

Speaking of YouTube, how about that AMV that convinced you to watch Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet?

Yeah, I liked that one.

How’s your anime collection look anyway?

Well, I’ve got 33 Blu-rays and DVDs, although there’s a couple of repeats in those. The story of my life, I need more media storage. Probably gonna have to look into another shelving unit after Christmas.

But don’t you stream?

Sure, I like streaming. I watch most stuff streaming. But I also like having physical media for my favorites. Fortunately, the high prices help keep me from getting too crazy.

If you could have one piece of furniture from anime right now, what would it be?

Definitely a kotatsu. My back would hate sitting on the floor, but just having your legs tucked under a table with a heater… sounds so great.
