Welcome to another exciting installment of Spacemon, the tale of a Pokemon TRPG campaign! It is a sci-fi space epic played using the Pokemon Tabletop United (PTU) system and GMed by fellow TAY author DragonStorm247. You can get caught up on the entire Spacemon saga here!

H awoke in the lab and found the ship completely empty. He checked the scanners and realized that the Dunsparce was inside of a space Wailord. Still a bit extra delusional from being knocked out, he set out to explore the inside of what he viewed as a truly magnificent and superior being.

After wandering through the inside of the Wailord, H somehow found his way to the Pokemon’s brain. Standing below the brain, he realized it was much higher than he could reach.

“It’s time for Amazing Device A!” H declared. He brandished his invention, simply string shot on a rope, and used it to scale the walls of flesh and bone.

Once atop the brain, he decided to experiment. He tried shooting the brain with electricity, but it elicited no response from the Wailord. Suddenly, he fell down onto the brain and hit his head again. As he collided with the gray matter, H felt a connection form between himself and the Pokemon, and it showed him the history of its people. The Wailord was lonely and subject to the whims of Humans, or so it seemed at first. H came to the realization that this Pokemon was using its surroundings, its human “master” to its own advantage.

“Such genius!” H shouted out. “In order to progress toward my destiny of becoming the most superior being, I must learn to use my surroundings as well! I must use the inferior ones who travel with me to my advantage! I must help them, so that they can help me to achieve my goals!”

In his delusions, H believed that he was, in fact, speaking with the Wailord. He heard the majestic creature’s voice inside his head, “Henceforth, you shall be known as Ara Haoshyangha!”

Feeling changed, improved even, H returned to ship to await his companions’ arrival. They soon returned, soaked in the Wailord’s bodily fluids. “Hello my friends,” he greeted them. “Welcome back.”

Arlon, Dmitri, Morgan, and Shane gave each other very confused looks.

“What’s gotten into you, mate?” Arlon asked.

“I am a changed man,” H stated.

“I see …” Arlon replied. “Well I think we would all very much like to get the hell out of here.”

Spacemon, Vol. 1 - Chapter 10: Big Booming Balls on Banton!

As the Dunsparce flew through warp space en route to Sector 27, the ship’s crew took the time to get cleaned up after their little adventure inside the Wailord. After his turn in the shower, Shane went to the lab to confront H about their previous altercation. Stepping inside, Shane saw H was once again working on something, oblivious to his presence. He cleared his throat, causing H to look up.

“Yes, what is it?” the cyborg asked as he continued to tinker.

“We need to talk,” Shane told him.

“About what?” H asked.

“You know exactly what,” Shane said. “You tried to trap me, to experiment …  I hope you’ve learned my limits on what I will and will not allow.”

“Of course,” H replied. “You have your limits and I have mine.” Before he could say anything more, he suddenly flew across the room to the wall and his head became quite stuck to it.

Shane stared with a confused look on his face.

“I have been conducting experiments with magnetism,” H explained.

“I see,” Shane replied, still wary of H. “So have we come to an understanding?” he asked.

“Yes, yes,” H told him as he attempted to pry himself away from the wall. “I will not try to experiment on you. You are my rival, after all. I must find a more befitting way of overcoming you.”

“Uh, sure,” Shane said before he turned and walked out, leaving H magnetized to the wall.

When the Dunsparce dropped out of warp space in the Elyon System in Sector 27, Arlon steered the ship to the planet Banton. Arlon brought the ship down to the desert world and landed near the outskirts of one of the smaller settlements.

“What are we doing here?” Dmitri asked from the co-pilot’s seat. “Wouldn’t we be better off landing in a spaceport or something?”

“Normally, yes,” Arlon told him. “But an old friend of mine is set up here. His name is Korben Danstar. He’s a weapons dealer. If we want to confront the Red Suns, then arming up might be a good idea. Plus he knows the underworld of this planet like the back of his hand. He’ll know where they’re set up.”

Dmitri shrugged and stood up. “Works for me.”

The crew disembarked from the Dunsparce and began the trek into town. As they walked along, they came across a group of wild Pokemon. A Cacnea sat in the sand, enjoying the sun along with a Sandile that was half-buried in the sand and a Helioptile basking on a nearby rock.

“Excellent, a Sandile,” Arlon said to no one in particular. He reached for the Pokeball containing his Froakie and sent him out. “Jiraiya, use Water Pulse!” The Froakie fired a jet of water at the Sandile, catching the Desert Croc Pokemon off guard and delivering a powerful blow that left it dazed.

The sudden action caught the Helioptile’s attention and it began to charge itself up with electrical energy, as if to warn the attackers to stay away. The Cacnea, on the other hand, didn’t seem particularly bothered.

Dmitri then released his Scyther and directed her to attack the Sandile as well. “Gigan, use False Swipe!” he commanded. The Scyther flew at her target and swiped at it with one of her sharp blades, further whittling the Sandile down. He then reached for a Pokeball. He lobbed it at the Sandile, and the Pokemon was pulled inside. The Pokeball dropped to the ground, then began to shake violently for a few moments before the Sandile broke out.

Arlon then threw one of his own, but, unlike his crewmate, he was successful. Dmitri looked at him with an annoyed expression on his face. “Sorry mate,” Arlon told him. “This one’s mine.”

The others released their own Pokemon and joined in the battle as well as the Helioptile seemed like it was going to attack.

“Flora, use Bug Bite!” Morgan commanded her Beautifly. Flora flew at the Helioptile and made her attack, further distressing the Pokemon. H then pulled out a Pokeball and threw it at the Helioptile, but the Pokemon soon broke out.

Further distressed by the capture attempt, the Helioptile unleashed a massive Parabolic Charge in a desperate attempt to heal itself. “#1, intercept it!” H commanded his Rhyhorn. Like a lightning rod, #1 absorbed the attack, leaving the Helioptile panicked and confused.

While H focused on attempting to capture the Helioptile, the others turned their attention to the Cacnea. “D.A.T.A., use Tackle!” Shane commanded his Porygon2. It flew at its target and slammed into it, catching it off guard as it had not expected to be part of the battle.

“Gigan, False Swipe!”

“Flora, use Stun Spore!”

Before the Cacnea hads a chance to react, Dmitri and Morgan immediately ordered their Pokemon to follow up on D.A.T.A.’s attack, leaving the Cacnea hurt and immobilized. Shane then pulled out a Pokeball and threw it. The ball dropped to the ground as it pulled the Cacnea inside. It proceeded to shake a couple of times, then it fell still.

“Jiraiya, use Water Pulse!” Arlon commanded his Froakie, turning his attention back to the Helioptile. The blast of water crashed into the Helioptile, leaving it quite weakened. H then pulled out a Great Ball and threw it, successfully capturing the Generator Pokemon this time.

The crew eventually made their way into town, following Arlon as he led them to Korben’s shop. Upon entering they saw racks of guns everywhere. Small arms, rifles, heavy weapons, laser swords, grenades, anything they could possibly imagine.

“That … is a lot of weapons,” Shane commented.

“This is the right place alright,” Arlon said with a laugh. He looked around, but didn’t see anyone. He walked through the aisles, admiring the rows upon rows of weapons, eventually finding Korben in the back room checking inventory, back turned to the door.

“I see business is just as good as ever, mate,” Arlon said, announcing his presence.

“You certainly have an eye for it, Arlon Jett,” Korben replied as he turned around. He didn’t look at all surprised to see Arlon. “Good to see ya, pal,” he said, pulling Arlon into a bear hug. “How’ve ya been? Still alive and kicking I see.”

“Of course, mate,” Arlon said with a laugh, patting his old friend on the back. “It takes more than an explosion and a twelve story drop to kill me.”

“Indeed. Now, what can I get for ya?”

“I need weapons … and information,” Arlon informed his friend. “So business as usual.”

Suddenly, there was a loud crash in the main room. “Dmitri, be more careful,” Morgan’s voice floated into the back.

“Friends of yours?” Korben asked.

“My new crew,” Arlon replied.

“That would make sense.”

“Yeah … They’re not quite … what I’m used to, but they’re alright, if a bit inexperienced. But enough about that. I need to know where the Red Suns are operating here on Banton. I heard they were here, but couldn’t get a specific location.”

“And you think I might know,” Korben said, a big, stupid grin on his face.

“Of course, mate. You know everything about the bloody underworld of this dustball.”

“I heard something about them being here. In the capital, surprisingly. They only recently set up shop here, so I can’t quite pinpoint a location just yet.”

“Thanks, mate. Now, let’s get down to business. We need some weapons.”

“Planning on blowing your old pals up?” Korben asked, chuckling a bit.

“You know it, mate.” Arlon laughed, realizing how much he missed his old friend’s sense of humor.

Once their business was concluded— and Arlon purchased a new pair of pistols and Dmitri grabbed a laser sword— the crew headed back to the Dunsparce. After a brief stop on the way back for Dmitri to catch a Sandile of his own, the boarded the ship and Arlon flew it to the large capital city in the far more urban region of Banton on the opposite side of the planet.

Arlon found a reasonably priced spaceport and ses the ship down. Between the five members of the crew, they easily split the fee. They then proceeded into the city. Being rather familiar with Banton, Arlon led his crewmates to a bar favored by smugglers and other criminals to see if they could get any information on the whereabouts of the Red Suns.

“You lot look around,” Arlon told his crewmates. “I’ll go talk to the bartender.”

“What can I get you?” the bartender asked as Arlon approached the bar.

“Actually, mate,” Arlon told him. “I’m looking for information.”

“Funny how more people seem to order information than drinks,” the bartender quipped.

“I’m looking for the Red Suns,” Arlon said.

“Never heard of ‘em.”

Really?

The bartender frowned. “Look pal, I just mix drinks.”

“Fine, I’ll take a beer,” Arlon told him. The man seemed to be telling the truth so Arlon grabbed his drink and moved on. “What the hell kind of bartender works in a place like this and doesn’t have any bloody information?” Arlon grumbled to himself as he walked off.

He soon ran into H, who seemed quite bored. Arlon had a feeling his strange crewmate had no idea where they were here. He never seemed to pay attention. Arlon watched with mild amusement as H approached a random guy.

“How is your day going, my friend?” H asked the man.

“Uh … Who are you?” the man asked H apprehensively.

“I am the man who wishes to be enlightened by you.”

“Uh …  Okay? What do you want from me?”

“Tell me about your day, your week, your lifestyle! All there is to know so that I may improve myself.”

“I’m a farmer?” the man said, puzzled.

“You’re not interesting at all,” H told him before walking off to find someone else to talk to.

Arlon shook his head and chuckled before walking off as well

Morgan looked around the bar looking for any sort of indication that someone there might be connected to the Red Suns. Suddenly, a weird feeling overcame her and the place looked different. She looked at a guy sitting at a table and, suddenly, she saw him working somewhere, moving crates in a warehouse. The crates were branded with Red Suns’ logo. Her vision then zoomed out and gave her an indication of where this particular warehouse was located in the city.

Morgan looked up and everything seemed to be back to normal. She contorted her face in confusion as she tried to make sense of what just happened to her.

Noticing Morgan’s distressed face, Shane walked over to her. “Something wrong?” he asked her.

“I’m not sure,” Morgan told him. “That’s never happened before.”

“What?” Shane asked, unsure of what she meant.

“I saw something,” Morgan explained.

“Like,  here … or what?”

“No, not here. That’s the really creepy part.”

“What did you see?”

“I looked at that guy,” Morgan said, nodding at the man who had triggered her vision. “And he was somewhere else and I think he’s a Red Sun.”

“I’m gonna go get the rest of the group,” Shane said.

Shane flagged down the others and they all gathered at an open table in the back corner of the bar. H put his feet up on the table and everyone saw that the had been replaced with a cybernetic pair.

“What happened to your feet?” Morgan asked him, unsure of what to make of this development.

“I have improved myself,” H explained.

“I’m not even gonna ask,” Shane chimed in.

“It’s painful, but I will learn through the pain,” the cyborg told the group.

“Okay, good for you, mate,” Arlon responded. “But we’ve got far more important things to worry about.” He turned his attention to Morgan and asked, “What happened?”

“I had some sort of vision or something,” Morgan told him. “I’m not really sure. It’s never happened before.”

“Psionic abilities, perhaps?” Arlon postulated. “I used to know someone like that. Well, she didn’t have visions or anything, but you get the idea. It’s not really important anyway. What did you see?”

“That man over there,” Morgan said, pointing out the man in her vision once again. “When I looked at him, I saw him working in a warehouse moving crates. They all had the same logo the the ship that attacked Gigan Station had on it.”

“That’s got to be where they’re operating,” Arlon said. “Did you see where it’s located?”

Morgan nodded. “Yeah. I can probably take us there.”

“Right then. Let’s get moving.”

Despite never having been on the planet before, Morgan managed to lead the Dunsparce crew to the warehouse she saw in her vision. It was located near the shipping yards in the industrial district of the city.

Arlon moved up to the warehouse door and attempted to open it, but didn’t budge. “Locked,” he informed his companions. Then, looking up, he said, “Maybe I can get in through a window or something.” He walked around to the side of the building and spotted an open window a floor up. “I can get in through there,” he told his crewmates, waving them over. “I’ll drop down on the other side and open the door for you.”

Using a dumpster pushed up against the side of the building, Arlon managed to jump up onto the slanted roof and climb  up to the window. Surprisingly, H joined him with relative ease. “Not bad,” Arlon told him.

As he looked in through the window, Arlon saw several workers moving crates around and loading them onto a ship. He also spotted a familiar face: the large, bald, bearded Romanov, Kiril Zhukov. Damn it, Arlon though to himself. Kiril was one of his teammates back when he was a part of the Red Suns. He was a man Arlon once called a friend. Going up against him would mean a tough fight.

“You still got that rope, mate?” Arlon asked H as he opened the window a bit further.

“Indeed I do,” he replied.

“Great. I need you to lower me in.”

H pulled out the rope and let it drop down into the warehouse. Arlon grabbed hold and slid down into the building, barely making a sound as his feet hit the floor. He hid behind the crates and listened in as Kiril spoke to the other men.

“Hurry it up! The boss wants cargo delivered now!” Kiril’s heavily accented voice boomed at the workers.

Delivered where? Arlon asked himself. No time to think about that now. There will be plenty of time for questions later.

Arlon snuck back to the door and opened it up for his crewmates waiting outside. He remained unseen but, unfortunately, one of the workers saw the door open to reveal Dmitri standing out in the open. Dmitri just waved at the confused worker. While the worker stared at Dmitri, dumbfounded, Arlon ran up to him and grabbed him from behind. The man managed to get out an audible sound before Arlon choked him out.

“Shit,”Arlon swore. Quickly, he dragged the unconscious body out of sight as Dmitri ran into the warehouse and hid with him.

“It came from over here!” another worker shouted. It sounded like he was just around the corner, on the other side of the crates. Arlon quickly climbed up on top of the stack of crates to remain unseen, but Dmitri wasn’t fast enough to join him in time. Arlon reached down and pulled his crewmate up, but it was too late; a pair of workers came running around the corner and saw the two of them.

“Boss, I found ‘em!” one of them shouted.

Arlon scrambled to his feet, then ran along the crates and jumped down in front of the workers. “Don’t try anything,” he forcefully commanded them, causing both to turn tail and run.

Meanwhile, as Morgan and Shane entered the warehouse, another pair of workers ran over to investigate. Reacting instinctively, Morgan blasted one of them with psychic energy, knocking him to the ground.

“Sorry!” Morgan shouted in surprise. She clearly hadn’t meant to do that.

The man quickly got back up and ran out the door after his co-worker and away from the building as fast as possible. “I don’t get paid enough for this shit!” he screamed as he ran.

A sudden movement in the corner of his eye caused Arlon to turn around quickly and draw one of his pistols, but it was only H dropping down from the window above. “What’s going on here?” the cyborg asked him.

“We’ve been spotted,” Arlon explained.

“Wonderful!” H exclaimed in excitement.

Hearing the echoing sounds of Kiril’s heavy footfalls, the pair ducked behind the cover of the crates as the large Romanov man appeared from behind another line of crates. Dmitri, however, was totally exposed in his current position.

“Greetings, comrade!” he shouted to his fellow Romanov from atop the crates, giving him a wave before releasing his Scyther. Kiril waved back at Dmitri, then grabbed a heavy weapon off his back and aimed it at him.

“B.O.L.T., use Thunder Wave!” Shane shouted as he ran over and released his Rotom. The Plasma Pokemon fired a wave of electricity at Kiril, but the large Romanov man dodged out of the way.

“I guess we’re doing this,” Arlon muttered as sent out his Quilava. “Kiril, we don’t have to do this!” he then shouted as he stepped out of cover and into view.

Kiril stared at Arlon with a look of pure surprise, having thought him to be dead, just like most of the Galaxy. His surprise at seeing his one-time ally quickly turned to anger. “Arlon Jett! You have balls coming here!” he shouted. He reached down to his belt and grabbed two Pokeballs. He threw them up into the air, releasing the pair of Electrodes that Arlon was all too familiar with. “We shall see whose balls are bigger!”

“Compensating much?” Dmitri goaded Kiril from his perch. Kiril responded by firing his cannon at Gigan. A giant blast of ice flew out from the weapon and collided with the Scyther, freezing her solid.

“Sleva, Prava, Rollout!” Kiril then commanded his twin Pokemon, pointing at Arlon. The two Electrodes rolled at Arlon and his Quilava, rapidly picking up speed. Arlon leapt out of the way of Sleva, but Prava collided with his Pokemon, slamming her into a crate.

“Cinder, use Ember!” Arlon commanded his Pokemon in response. The Quilava fired a lick of flames at the Electrode that hit her, searing its casing.

“B.O.L.T., use Confuse Ray!” Shane then commanded his Rotom, directing it toward the other Electrode. The ghost Pokemon unleashed a ray of energy, sending Sleva into a confused daze.

“Camille, use Ancient Power!” Morgan commanded her Solrock as she sent it out. The psychic rock blasted a wave of rocks and energy at Prava, starting to whittle it down a bit.

Jumping into action, H kicked his legs up and fired his foot at the wall, which magnetized to the metal surface. Retracting the cable connecting his foot to the rest of his leg, the cyborg pulled himself to the wall. Using his momentum, he flipped himself up and fired his other foot at the ceiling. He pulled himself to the very top of the room, then released his Rhyhorn in the air above Kiril. “#1, use Stomp!” H shouted to #1 as the Rhyhorn fell down toward Kiril.

#1 crashed down on Kiril, breaking several of the Romanov’s bones and knocking him unconscious. Unfortunately, this has the unintended consequence of causing Kiril’s other two Pokemon, a Weezing and a Gengar, to come out of their Pokeballs. In response, Arlon and Shane recalled their Pokemon and sent out Sandile and Porygon2.

Prava, the  Electrode Arlon’s Quilava burned, bounced off the wall at an increased speed and rolled right for his Sandile. It crashed right into the newly released Pokemon, packing a powerful punch. Sleva, the other Electrode, also bounced off the wall in a similar fashion. It covered itself over with ice as it rolled at #1. The Rhyhorn managed to dodge out of the way, causing Sleva to careen off into a pile of crates.

Meanwhile, Prizrak, Kiril’s Gengar, looked at Shane’s Porygon2 and unleashed a blast of focused energy, which took the Virtual Pokemon down instantly. “Wilhelm, use Shadow Punch!” Dmitri commanded in response as he sent out his Haunter. The Gas Pokemon flew over and threw a punch at his evolved form and the Gengar responded with a Sucker Punch. The two ghostly Pokemon slammed one another with their fists, injuring each other.

“Looks like it’s your turn again, B.O.L.T.,” Shane said as he recalled his fainted Porygon2 and switched back to his. The Plasma Pokemon didn’t even get a moment to react to the situation before Otrava, Kiril’s Weezing, spit a giant blob of sludge at it, doing quite a bit of damage. “Never mind,” Shane sighed. Seeing how weakened his Rotom was, Shane recalled it and sent out his Klefki.

“Camille, use Confusion!” Morgan then commanded her Solrock, pointing at the Weezing as the intended target. The Meteorite Pokemon fired off a blast of psychic energy at the Weezing, dealing a powerful hit. Seeming to feel more confident in her newfound abilities, Morgan also blasted the Weezing with psychic energy, further whittling it down.

As the battle continued, Kiril’s Electrodes rolled back into the fray for another hit. Prava came gunning for Arlon’s Sandile again, delivering a more powerful hit than the last, however the Desert Croc Pokemon resisted the attack. Sleva went after #1 again, once more coating itself in ice. This time, its attack landed and did some serious damage to the Rhyhorn.

“Caiman, use Sand Tomb!” Arlon commanded his Sandile in response. The reptilian Pokemon unleashed a blast of sand at Prava, taking the burned and weakened Electrode down.

“K.E.Y.S., use Fairy Wind!” Shane then commanded his Klefki. The Key Ring Pokemon summoned up a gust of wind to strike Prizrak, but the Gengar dodged out of the way of the attack by phasing through some crates.

“Camille, use Psywave!” Morgan commanded her Solrock, also targeting Prizrak. The Meteorite Pokemon fired off a wave of psychic energy, but the Gengar quickly floated up and away from the attack.

Meanwhile, Otrava flew at Shane as fast as he could, a bright light emanating from his pores as he approached. Once in range, the Weezing explodes with massive force. Shane appeared to glitch away from the blast, but K.E.Y.S. wasn’t so lucky. The explosion knocked the Klefki out instantly, almost killing him. The Weezing landed on the ground, unconscious, leaving a poisonous haze floating in the area of the explosion. Shane recalled his fainted Pokemon and sent out the Cacnea he caught earlier.

“I probably should have warned you guys, all his Pokemon know Explosion!” Arlon shouted to his crewmates.

“All of them!?” Morgan shouted in response. Clearly wishing to avoid another explosion, Morgan focused on the Gengar and fired off another blast of Psychic energy. This time, the attack landed, finally taking the ghostly Pokemon out of the picture.

Dmitri then targeted the last remaining Electrode, shooting a hypnotic beam at the Ball Pokemon that put it to sleep. The Electrode keeps rolling in its sleep and slammed into a wall.

“S.P.I.K.E., use Pin Missile!”

“Caiman, use Assurance!”

“#1, use Stomp!”

Shane, Arlon, and H, simultaneously commanded their Pokemon to strike the now-vulnerable Electrode. All three unleashed their attacks, dealing a massive amount of damage, but waking the Pokemon up in the process. The Electrode began to glow as it woke, building up for an Explosion. Thinking quickly, Dmitri pulled out the laser sword he purchased in Korben’s shop and ran at the Ball Pokemon. He struck the Electrode with the blade, knocking it out before it could detonate.

Arlon breathed a sigh of relief. “That was a close one, but we don’t have much time. I suspect more Red Suns might show up. Let’s search the place and see if we can’t find anything useful.”

The crew split up and searched through the warehouse. As his crewmates came across some weapons and useful supplies, which they decided to take with them, Arlon found his way to a small administrative office and spotted a laptop sitting on the desk. Having a good idea of what Kiril’s password might be, Arlon tried a few variations and successfully gained access. He quickly searched through some files and found lots of data on Gigan Station and the nearby Sector 25 warp gate. He realized that this must have been the data the Red Suns stole from the station so he decided to take the laptop with him.

“I found something,” Arlon announced as he returned to the main room. “A laptop which has the information we need. We can analyze it back on the ship. Let’s get out of here.”

“What do we do about him?” Morgan asked, looking over at Kiril’s unconscious body.

“We’ll take him with us. Interrogate him.”

Arlon walked over and picked up his onetime friend’s Pokeballs. He recalled the Romanov’s fainted Pokemon, then stashed the balls in his pocket for the moment. “H, we’ll need your Rhyhorn to lug him back to the ship.”

Back on the Dunsparce, the crew tied Kiril up in the cargo hold, then waited for him to wake up. When he finally showed signs of stirring, Arlon approached, then slapped him in the face a couple times. “C’mon, mate. Wake up.”

“Wha … ? Where am I?” Kiril asked as he began to come to his senses.

“That’s not important right now, mate,” Arlon told him. “Now, tell me, what are you planning?”

“I have nothing to say to you,” he angrily spat back at Arlon.

“You might wanna rethink that, mate,” Arlon responded. He placed a booted foot on Kiril’s broken ribs and began to apply pressure. The Romanov man spat blood at him in retaliation.

“This isn’t working,” Morgan interrupted. “Get out of the way.”

“What are you doing?” Arlon asked.

“Just move,” Morgan told him. Arlon stepped out of the way, then Morgan blasted Kiril with psychic energy, sending the man into a state of confusion.

“Damn, you’re really getting the hang of that, luv,” Arlon told her before turning back to Kiril. “Ready to start talking?” he asked him.

The dazed Romanov seemed to be quite out of it at this point, but he was still cognizant enough. “Where am I?” he asked again. He looked around until locking eyes with Arlon. “Oh, hello Arlon,” he said. “I didn’t know the boss had you working this job too.”

Arlon looked back at him with a confused expression on his face. He then came to the realization that Kiril must have thought that he was still with the Red Suns because of whatever Morgan did. “Of course, mate,” he said. “The boss thought you could use a hand. What’s the plan?”

“We’re using the virus we created from the Gigan data to hack the warp gate.”

“And where is this virus?”

“Only the boss knows.”

“Where is the boss, anyway?”

“He is in Sector 25. We will be joining him there soon.”

“Thanks mate,” Arlon said. “Now get some rest. You look tired.” He then turned to his crewmates. “Let’s get him patched up,” he told them. “Then we’ll figure out what to do with him.”

Notes: After two weeks of missing players, we finally had all our players back for this session. H’s player came up with some crazy story of what his character was doing while we were fighting the gym. It provided a change in his character so that he would be (temporarily) less of a dick to everyone else’s characters and give all of us some amusement.

With our party intact we could focus on some plot! We headed to Banton and delved into more of my character’s backstory. That meant fighting one of the Red Suns characters I came up with: Kiril Zhukov. I now have a much more detailed backstory for Arlon so I added in more details that weren’t present back when we played this session. I think it made the scene flow a lot better.

H replaced his feet with cybernetic magnet feet with extendo-legs in this session, which led to the fight with Kiril being way more interesting. His player rolled a nat 20 on Rhyhorn’s stomp so it messed Zhukov up so bad.

This chapter really didn’t need that much work in terms of rewriting compared to some of the previous chapters. It mostly just needed some polish, which is what I gave it. I only ended up adding about three and a half pages to length. It did push the length to the point where I considered breaking it into two chapters, but there wasn’t a great place to split it up so I just left it as is.

Update 9/15/21: I echo my sentiment from the first rewriting of this chapter. Other than converting to past tense, fixing some wording, making sure the scenes were written in a consistent perspective, and adding a few extra descriptive details, it really didn’t need any work. I didn’t mention it in the original notes, but this was the first session that Morgan’s psionic abilities started to manifest narratively. There was a single instance in the previous chapter that I removed for consistency because it was left totally unexplained, but now this chapter officially marks the beginning of Morgan’s psionic journey.

That does it for this chapter. As always the Spacemon gang and I will be monitoring the comments to foster discussion and answer any questions. Feel free to give feedback and critiques of the writing so I can improve it for the future, or just leave a comment with what you think about what went down in this chapter or what you think might happen next! I wonder how much of H's general state of being can be attributed to the potential long term effects of ye olde warp madness?

Here is what I expect from TTRPG stealth missions: everything going to hell in a handbasket and devolving into chaos! I was really surprised so many of the Maverick crew’s infiltrations went as well as they did. I feel like this combat is the first time all the characters’ developing skills were put on full display at the same time, which made for a very interesting read.

I think I found a present tense phrase that slipped through: “It covers itself over with ice as it rolled at #1.”
@peepso_user_45(DisturbedShadow)
@peepso_user_2076(Shadows_Interceptor) I think some of it comes down to GM style. DragonStorm is not as forgiving as I am. Another difference here from a narrative perspective is that aside from Arlon, the Helix crew is far less experienced with these sorts of things. Dmitri and Morgan are barely out of their teens, H is a delusional cyborg with no concept of the word discretion, and Shane was *actually* born yesterday. By the time frontier started, most characters had already seen some shit.
