Spacemon, Vol. 2 - Chapter 12: Omens

“I can’t believe you’re going to keep the insane robot doctor who made Crazy McMurderface on the ship!” Alex shouted. She frantically looked back and forth between Morgan and Shane, trying to make sense of their decision. The three of them still stood around the table in the mess area after H and Armstrong had left to begin preparations to continue their experiments.

“I actually trust him a lot more than I do H, so I think it’ll be okay,” Morgan calmly replied. “So please, try to calm down. Who knows, maybe he’ll even be able to keep H in line.”

“But they’re trying to make him more powerful!” the distressed Alex responded. “They’re gonna turn him into some kind of murder machine! And let’s not forget that he tried to kill me!”

“Well, as long as he doesn’t try to hurt us, then I think it’s fine,” Morgan said.

“Please tell me how this is going to be fine!” Alex cried out. “None of this makes any sense! We’re going all over the Galaxy doing all this crazy stuff, but no one’s even bothered to tell me why! I’m not a child; you can’t just keep this stuff from me!”

Alex paused to take a breath, then turned and pointed at Shane. “And you!” she shouted. “What the hell are you?! You can teleport around and you have that weird glowing tattoo and—”

“Alex, calm down!” Morgan shouted, giving her a harsh look.

“But you need to start explaining this stuff to me!” Alex cried.

“Just stop yelling and let us,” Morgan told her.

“It’s a really long story, “ Shane added. “Are you sure you want to hear it?”

Yes,” Alex insisted.

“Alright,” Shane said, taking a seat at the table once more. “Like I said, it’s a long story; you may want to sit back down.”

Alex sat herself down and looked expectantly at Shane, eager to hear what he had to say. There had to be a good reason for all of this craziness.

Shane cleared his throat, pausing a moment to think before diving into his tale. “I joined up with this crew shortly before we met Mr. Silver for the first time,” Shane started. “I suppose that’s when our story truly began.”

“We had been traveling together for a while before,” Morgan added. “But we met Shane just after we discovered the Genesect. Mr. Silver contacted us shortly thereafter because … H had created …” She shudders for a moment, as if recalling something terrible. “H had created some kind of warp goo.”

“Mr. Silver offered us a lot of money for samples of this goo,” Shane continued. “And then offered us even more money to travel to a set of coordinates in uncharted space … in a sector without a warp gate. Using a virus we stole from the Red Suns, we were able to hack into a gate and launch ourselves into deep warp space on a course for this sector.”

By this point, Alex was totally enthralled by the tale. “What was there?” she asked, her eyes wide with excitement.

“Earth,” Morgan answered.

“Wait … You mean you found Earth?” Alex asked, surprised and amazed by this revelation. “You actually rediscovered Earth?”

“Yes,” Shane told her. “But something tells me Mr. Silver already knew it was there. Anyway, we found a strange crystal-rock tree on the planet, among other things, but that’s not really that important. We were trapped in that sector; we aimlessly flew through warp space for a long time and we nearly went crazy … That’s when Giratina found us.”

“Giratina?” Alex asked, not recognizing the name. “Who’s that?”

“It’s a Pokemon that lives in the Warp. It’s how we got back … And it’s where I got this,” Shane explained, holding up his right arm, the weird tattoo decorating it faintly glowing.

“Wow …” Alex gasped in wonder. “So you have, like, super powers or something?”

“Something like that …”

“That’s so cool! What happened next?”

“You know the rest,” Shane told her. “We met with Mr. Silver again to show him our findings and then he told us of the coming Genesect attack which, as you know, we helped to fight off.”

“So … why are we flying all over the Galaxy now?” Alex asked.

“Do you remember the story we told you about Arlon Jett?”

“Mhm.”

“Well … he seems to think that Mr. Silver is involved in some sort of galactic conspiracy … or something. I wouldn’t be surprised. Since becoming the leader of the Red Suns, Arlon has been trying to uncover Mr. Silver’s operations. He’s the one who asked us to find Armstrong. And Mr. Silver is the reason Armstrong needs to stay on the ship.”

“I think I understand now,” Alex said, looking from Shane to Morgan, then back to Shane.

“You’re a part of our story now too,” Shane continued. “And from what I understand, you need us to help you find the Mirror.”

“You mean you’re actually going to help me?” Alex asked.

“Sure,” Shane told her. “You’re part of our crew now. We can go after it whenever you like.”

“How about now?” Alex asked eagerly.

“If that’s what you want,” Morgan told her. “Just let Minerva know where to go.”

“Okay!” Alex exclaimed, jumping up from the table. She hurried off to the bridge with a spring in her step, excited to finally be able to continue her search for her father.

With the Helix now quiet, Morgan attempted to get some work done on her bots, but soon found herself wandering around the ship, eventually ending up outside Shane’s workroom. Not wanting to be alone at the moment, she nervously knocked on the door, and Shane opened it.

“Hey Morgan. You need anything?”

“Uh … hi,” Morgan said, clutching the small piece of electronic equipment in her hand a bit tighter. It was one of HERB’s components that she had been attempting to work on, but she had been fidgeting with it more than anything.

The device in her hand would have been too small for Shane to immediately recognize, but it still managed to draw his attention. “What’s that?” he asked, pointing at her hand.

“This? I was, uh, working on the calibration for HERB’s flame jet. The, um, the Pokeball cannon, you know, has a huge recoil, and …” she trailed off. “I was wondering if I could, ah, sit in here.”

“No problem,” Shane told her as he retreated back into the room. The room was quite barren— apart from the standard comm system, there was nothing inside save for a few empty pokeballs and the recently acquired warp drive, positioned at the center and in a state of disassembly. “As a matter of fact, I was just trying to figure out how to rig this thing to work when not attached to a ship. I could use someone to talk to.”

Morgan hesitantly entered. “I wouldn’t, um, really know anything about that …”

Morgan walked to the back of the room and sat against the far wall, where she has a full view of the room. She wasn’t too keen to approach a partially exposed warp drive.

As Shane continued to work, purple sparks of warp energy would occasionally float up from the drive, only to fizzle out after a few seconds. “There must be some sort of safety protocol that prevents it from staying active for extended periods of time when isolated,” he mused.

“That doesn’t … hurt?” Morgan gestured vaguely to Shane’s right side. The mark on his arm was glowing and pulsing slightly.

“It happens occasionally. I’ve more than gotten used to it by now.”

“That’s good.” She relaxed a bit, showing a hint of a smile. “I wanted to, um, thank you. For keeping our last conversation private.”

Shane looked up at Morgan and smiled a bit. “You’re welcome. You seemed like you needed someone to trust.”

Silence ensued, and Morgan looked on as Shane’s further attempts at fiddling with the warp drive yielded little more than sparks and smoke. “No, that doesn’t work either, apparently,” Shane mumbled to himself as he grew even more frustrated with the non-functioning machine.

“Do you even know how that thing works?” Morgan asked cautiously. “Maybe you should do some research first, come back to it later …”

“I’m fine,” Shane snapped back, noticeably tense. “I just wish this stupid thing would work for once.”

“Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?” she joked somewhat nervously. She hardly knew anything about warp drives, but Shane seemed to take her advice rather seriously.

He quickly looked over the device and its components, only to realize that he had neglected to connect it to any form of power to begin with. “That would do it,” he said with a sigh as he plugged it into the ship’s power grid. The warp drive flared with power, creating a small ball of warp within that bathed the room in a deep purple glow. Shane seemed to wince in pain as the mark on his arm began to glow almost as brightly, pulsating rapidly as if reacting to the sphere’s energy.

Morgan failed to suppress a laugh; she hadn’t seriously considered the possibility that it might be something so simple. She sat back, relaxed and unprepared. As her gaze met the Warp, it hit her; the impact of the vision overwhelmed her senses, and events unfolded before her very eyes.

The cycle of Day and Night played out on a cosmic scale. As Dusk fell upon the Galaxy, a machine flew through space with what appeared to be a habitable planet in the distance. The strange machine towed pods full of both Humans and Pokemon towards its destination.

A comet storm rained down, striking the machine and sending Morgan’s view spinning. She felt as if she was being pulled away, the Galaxy spiraling out before her as the image faded away. An ominous sense of foreboding overcame her as she vaguely regained awareness of what was happening around her.

Sparks began to fly out of the Warp as it quickly grew unstable, likely due to the previous tampering done to the machine. Shane unplugged the warp drive and collapsed, the mark slowly fading as the sphere of warp energy diminished and disappeared.

“I? What? Shane!” Morgan looked frantically back and forth, her senses snapping back to her. Still reeling from the shock, she sat upright. The room appeared exactly as it had moments ago, as if nothing had happened, yet mysterious images were now burned into her head.

“I’m fine, I think. I’ll put this thing back into a more stable setup later, but right now …” Shane trailed off as he tried to get up, wincing at the pain that still seemed to be emanating from the mark. He slumped back down. “I’m just gonna rest here a bit.”

Morgan felt dimly as though she should do something. She stumbled over to the room’s intercom and, still too distraught to care who heard, called, “MARIA? MARIA, report to the warp lab.”

The medical bot arrived shortly thereafter, with H in tow. “What’s going on here?” the cyborg demanded. “Why has MARIA been called?”

“The warp drive …” Shane explained weakly. “It … interacted with the mark and …” He lifted his right arm slightly, the mark still glowing faintly and sparking off warp energy. MARIA took the opportunity to scan it for signs of damage.

“Well I suppose you have as much right to fiddle with it as anyone,” H replied. “Go ahead.”

“Hey, what’s going on in here?” Alex asked as she burst into the room, attracted by the commotion.

“I was messing around with the Warp …” Shane said faintly, lifting his arm again to show the mark still sparking off energy.

“Does it hurt?” Alex asked, getting up close and staring at the shades of blue and purple pulsating along Shane’s arm. Morgan could tell she was resisting the urge to poke it.

“Yeah … Yeah, it does … Yeah …”

“You’ve got to get a hold of that thing already,” H told Shane. “Learn to control it. I’m learning to control what I can do; you need to learn to control what you can do, otherwise you can’t be a fit rival for me. You need to keep improving, otherwise I’ll leave you behind and you’ll be worthless.”

“No medical conditions detected,” MARIA announced. “Patient is healthy.”

“H, at least your issues make scientific sense,” Morgan snapped at the cyborg, annoyed by MARIA’s lack of a diagnosis.

“Ah, but the Warp does make scientific sense,” H declared.

“Oh, really?” Shane asked sarcastically.

“Yes.”

“I’d like to see you try,” Morgan challenged the cyborg.

“I would if I didn’t have other things that are more important to discover. All I can do is wish you the best of luck.”

“Honestly, if MARIA can’t find anything wrong, I think the best thing would be for me to rest a bit,” said Shane, turning back to Morgan. “And hope that the pain goes away …”

“I never needed rest!” H interjected.

“Shut up, H,” Shane snapped back at him.

“Very well,” H replied before exiting the room, presumably off to his lab once again.

MARIA began administering pain medication and Shane soon looked like he was starting to feel better. The sparks of energy were still flying out from the mark, but they didn’t seem to be bothering him as much. Morgan watched as Shane sat up and began putting the warp drive back together.

Dmitri sat in his room, head in hands, contemplating his actions. With his consuming rage now subsided, he felt only somber remorse. He could still hear the screams of the man, still see the smear on the wall as the lifeless corpse slumped to the floor. While he had killed before in self-defense, this time it felt different. He could have let that man live, he could have walked away, but he didn’t. He chose to end that man’s life; he had acted with intention. Now, his acts burdened him.

He thought of his crewmates, those he had come to call his friends. What would they think of him now? He thought of his brother Nikolai for the first time in a long time. What would he think of him now if he were here? For years after his death, Dmitri had longed for a way to commune with his brother, if only one last time, but now he shuddered to think of what Nikolai would have to say about what he had done. Dmitri had blamed their parents for Nikolai’s death, but if his brother were here today, how would he be able to look him in the eye knowing he’d become a killer? He was no better than them.

Dmitri pulled out the Pokeball he took off the man he killed and stared at it, disgusted. He recalled this Sharpedo sinking its jaws full of serrated teeth into Maine, the image of the Metang’s flickering eyes still burning in his mind. He pulled out his laser sword and stared at it,                                                feeling that same overwhelming disgust. With this weapon, he had tainted his Pokemon’s memory by killing that man.

No longer able to bear the sight of these horrible things, Dmitri got up and exited the room. He wandered the ship, seeking out Morgan and Shane. Eventually, he found them in the warp lab along with Alex. They looked up as he entered, both Morgan and Shane giving him a cold glare.

Dmitri approached, and laid the Pokeball and his laser sword on the floor in front of them. “I don’t want …” he started before trailing off. “I can’t look at them anymore. Just … do with them what you will.” Dmitri then turned and exited the room, leaving his crewmates to their business before they had a chance to say anything.

Alex felt confused as she watched Dmitri leave with that pained look on his face. Judging from the interaction and the cold expressions on Morgan and Shane’s faces, she had missed something.

“Uh… what happened?” she asked, turning back to her crewmates.

“That’s right … you were taking Armstrong to the ship …” Shane said, trailing off as he turned to Alex. “One of the two men we were fighting killed one of Dmitri’s Pokemon … and Dmitri paid in kind.”

“You mean he killed a Pokemon?” Alex asked, her eyes going wide with horror at the thought of such cruelty. One of the bad guys killing a Pokemon was bad enough to her, but the idea of one of her own traveling companions committing such an act was even worse.

“Not exactly,” Morgan told her. “It was … a little worse than that. He killed a man.”

“But it was the man who killed his Pokemon, right?” Alex asked.

“Yes,” Morgan replied. “But nobody deserves that …”

Alex said nothing. If she had lost one of her own Pokemon like that … The image of her Lucario clinging to life after their fight with Heilovic flashed through her mind. She didn’t even want to think about what she might have done if …

No. That isn’t going to happen, she told herself. She had already made the decision to train with her Pokemon; she swore she would be prepared for whatever challenge awaited.

“Gah! Stupid thing! Why won’t you show anything useful?!” Alex cried out in frustration, casting the holoscroll away from her.

The girl lay on her bed and had been pouring over the holoscroll Gilgamesh had given her again for the past few hours. Ever since he gave it to her, she had spent her free time staring at it, but it always showed the same thing, always the planet where her father disappeared. There was hardly any information other than a map of the area around the temple located on the planet.

The scroll flickered for a moment as it landed on the foot on Alex’s bed, the display changing. The sudden movement caught Alex’s eye and she glanced over to see that it now showed the locations of other temples on other worlds.

“What?”

Confused by the sudden change, Alex picked the scroll up again and examined it. “Why did that happen?”

Before Alex had the chance to investigate, Minerva’s voice sounded over the comms, “We’ve arrived.”

There was no more time to stare at the holoscroll. Alex knew she wouldn’t find any more information there. Her answers lay on the planet below. She stuffed the unhelpful device into her bag, then rushed to the bridge.

Alex arrived on the bridge to find Dmitri, Morgan, and Shane already there. Looking out through the viewport, she saw the planet looming in the distance. The light of the system’s star was eclipsed by the jungle world as the Helix drew near. The ship soon broke through the atmosphere and soared above the faintly lit trees.

“I assume you want to land near the creepy pyramid?” Minerva asked.

“Yes,” Alex told her. “That’s the Mirrored Temple.”

“Nearest clearing’s a few klicks out. Also seems to be a crashed ship further out,” Minerva said, nodding her head in the direction of a wrecked freighter that lay amongst the trees. She flew the Helix to the clearing and set the ship down.

Immediately, Alex rushed to the airlock, prepared to set out immediately. She reached to open the door, but Morgan grabbed her arm. “Alex, it will be dark soon. We can’t go out there.”

“At the very least, not yet,” Shane added, walking up behind them.

“But we need to go now!” Alex shouted.

“Do you want to get mauled by a wild Pokemon?” Morgan asked her. “We don’t know what’s out there in that jungle. We should wait until the morning.”

“But I’ve never been this close before!”

“If you go out there now, this might be as close as you ever get. I understand that this means a lot to you, but it can wait until morning. Let’s all try to get some rest.”

Fiiiine.”

Alex spent the next several hours eagerly awaiting the sunrise. She attempted to sleep, but found herself unable; she was simply too wired up. She couldn’t believe she was actually here, on the very planet where her father disappeared. There had to be something here, some clue or lead that would point her in the right direction. She was so close now that she could taste it.

“Stupid sun, just come up already,” Alex grumbled as she paced impatiently back and forth in her room. Despite the planet’s short rotational period, the minutes seemed like hours, slowly crawling by. Suddenly, a ray of light flitted in through the viewport— a sliver of the rising sun.

She bolted out of the room, shouting as she ran down the hall. “The sun is up! Let’s go!” The others barely had a moment to rub the sleep from their eyes before Alex was off the ship and headed into the jungle.

“Slow down!” Shane called after her. “You’re gonna get yourself killed!” He teleported off the ship and grabbed Alex’s arm. “Just stop for a minute.”

“Okay, fiiiine,” Alex said.

The pair waited for a few moments, and Dmitri and Morgan eventually caught up with them.

“Where’s H?” Shane asked as they began to make their way deeper into the jungle.

“He’s discussing some things with Dr. Armstrong,” Morgan explained. “He said to go check out the crashed ship while he finishes up. He’ll meet us at the temple.”

“Aww …” Alex moaned. “I want to go there now.”

“It’s probably dangerous in the temple,” Morgan told her. “It’s best to wait until we’re all together.”

The crew headed off in the direction of the crashed ship, pushing their way through the dense jungle. They eventually emerged in an area where the trees weren’t as thick and close together, but couldn’t quite be called a clearing. Alex spotted a Liepard circling a tree, eyeing a Natu perched on a branch several meters up. The Natu chirped angrily at the Liepard, clearly distressed by its presence.

“Oh no, it’s gonna eat it!” Alex exclaimed, reaching for her Houndoom’s Pokeball. As she released her Pokemon, Morgan and Shane sent out Pokemon of their own. The Liepard took notice of this and growled angrily as they approached.

“Diablo, use Ember! Alex commanded her Pokemon, pointing at the Liepard. The Houndoom ran forward and spit a lick of flames at the Liepard, drawing it away from the tree.

The Natu, still perched in the tree, eyed the new Pokemon warily. It identified Morgan’s Croconaw as a threat and shot out a burst of energy toward it.

“R.A.G.E., use Dazzling Gleam,” Shane instructed his Clefable. The pink Pokemon shot a bright blast of light towards the Liepard, but the nimble cat dodged out of the way. It eyed R.A.G.E. angrily as it lands on its feet.

“Hector, use Ice Fang!” Morgan commanded her Croconaw. The Big Jaw Pokemon ran up to the Liepard, his fangs coated over in ice. Hector clamped his jaws down, delivering a nasty blow. The Liepard growled angrily in response. “Now to catch it,” Morgan muttered. She pulled out a Great Ball and chucked it at the Liepard. It connected and pulled the Cruel Pokemon inside. It shook three times before falling still.

“Your turn, D.I.S.C.O.,” Shane said, switching out to his newly acquired Amaura, which was better suited to fighting the Natu.

“Hey, come down here!” Alex shouted at the Natu. “We’re not gonna hurt you.” The bird just flapped its wings and chirped. “Damn it … Diablo, jump up and shoot an Ember at it!” The Houndoom ran up and jumped up at the branch, shooting another burst of fire that struck the Natu and left it burned.

“D.I.S.C.O., use Thunder Wave,” Shane then instructs his Amaura. The Tundra Pokemon sent out a little burst of electricity at the Natu, causing it to momentarily seize up. It looked very bothered and started glowing, then it suddenly vanished.

“No, come back!” Alex shouted. “I wanted to catch you!”

“It’s not gone yet,” Shane told her. He lifted his arm, his mark glowing for a moment, and suddenly, the Natu reappeared on the branch. It looked around briefly with a very confused expression, then it started flapping its wings and chirping angrily, attempting to fly away.

“Not so fast!” Alex shouted after it as she lobbed a Great Ball at it. The ball struck the Natu in the air, pulling the Tiny Bird Pokemon inside. “Yes!” Alex cried out in victory as the ball landed on the ground.

After collecting their captures, the crew recalled their Pokemon and they continued on toward the crashed ship. Reaching the wreckage, it was obvious that the ship had been here a while, but due to the damage and rust, it was hard to say how long for sure. Alex guessed it could be anywhere from a few months to several years. The area was covered with bits of scrap from the ruined freighter, but, interestingly, no bodies.

“Looks like the bodies got dragged away,” Shane said, pointing at drag marks leading away from the crash site in multiple directions.

“Freaky …” Alex mumbled

They moved on through the wreckage, checking out the rooms that remained intact. “There’s not much here,” Dmitri commented as they found little else of interest.

“This is just a stupid wreck,” Alex said. “It’s not even the ship he came here on.”

“Hey, I found something!” Dmitri suddenly called out. Alex ran over with the others and helped Dmitri uncover a broken safe. Inside, they found some potions, Pokeballs, a datapad containing some credits, and a bottle of alcohol. Dmitri immediately grabbed the bottle as the rest of the group began going through everything else.

After splitting up the spoils, the crew decided to head for the temple as there didn’t seem to be much else of value in the area. As they walked along, the Mirrored Temple looming in the distance, Alex suddenly heard a rustling in the bushes. The girl motioned for the others to stop, and took a look around. She soon spotted a Snivy poking its head out of the leaves.

“Hey there, little guy,” Alex said as she approached it. She knelt down in front of the Grass Snake Pokemon and reached out to pet it. It retreated back into the bush, eyeing her suspiciously.

“Here. Feed it this.” Alex looked up to see Dmitri standing next to her, holding out a familiar looking cabbage.

“You kept a cabbage from Vandia?” Alex asked, raising an eyebrow. “Why?”

“Why not?” Dmitri asked in return, a stupid smirk appearing on his face.

Alex shrugged and grabbed the cabbage out of Dmitri’s hand. She broke off a leaf and offered it to the Snivy. The Pokemon gobbled the leaf up, then looked up at Alex expectantly. She offered it another leaf and it emerged from the brush. Alex reached out her hand again and pet the Pokemon.

“Aww. You’re so cute,” Alex said. “Wanna come with me?” she asked, holding out a Great Ball. The Snivy sniffed the ball and then gave it a lick before making a disgusted face. “You don’t eat it, silly,” Alex giggled as she pressed the ball up against the side of the Snivy’s head. The ball pulled it in, then fell still almost instantly.

“Okay let’s go!” Alex then shouted, jumping to her feet. She led the crew as they continued on toward the temple.

The trees broke as they approached the temple, leaving only the cracked walkway and the neatly arranged trees in between. It almost felt as if some mysterious force had been keeping the jungle growth at bay. The late-day sunlight reflected off the temple; it seemed as if the whole structure was shimmering.

Alex spotted a set of massive stone and glass doors as the drew near the base of the temple. H stood waiting for them in front of the doors. “Shall we?” the cyborg asked.

Shane walked up to the door and cautiously pushed it open. The door slowly swung away, allowing the light of the sun to slowly creep inside, dispelling the darkness in the entryway. The crew then entered the temple, slowly moving into the darkness contained within.

Session Notes: This was a great start to the session. Alex has been fully accepted into the crew of the UAS Helix, and they have finally explained to her all the crazy stuff that they’ve been involved in! It’s been mildly annoying knowing all these things as a player but not actually knowing them as a character.

And then we had another Shmorgan scene! Thanks to Clarissa and The Other Guy for pre-writing the scene to read to all of us, and for making my job easier. I copied and pasted it into this chapter and then made some modifications to make it fit nicely into the narrative. And we got to see Morgan’s ominous vision! It’s all part of her developing clairvoyant abilities. What does it mean?

And we have made it to the Mirrored Temple! As a character, Alex is excited to finally find some answers, and as a player I am excited to move on from my character’s goals from the start of this volume to whatever happens next. I think you guys will find what awaits in the temple to be quite interesting.

Update 11/21/21: This was another challenging one, mostly due to length. If I was writing it up now, I would probably have divided this session into three chapters instead of just two, making this chapter a bit shorter, just covering the ship RP. I’m not going to be breaking chapters up as part of this touch-up process, though, so it stays as is. Most of the work was just converting to past tense, making sure it was all in consistent perspective, and some grammar and wording fixes, but there were some more involved parts too.

The first scene is mostly the same, just some added clarifications on who’s speaking and some extra effort toward making sure it was all in Alex’s perspective. The second scene needed a bit more work. As mentioned in the original notes, Clarissa and The Other Guy wrote the beginning of the scene for the session, but it needed some modifications. It kinda flipped between Morgan and Shane’s perspectives, which worked for reading it in the session, but since I’m trying to keep each scene in a consistent point of view in these touch-ups, I shifted it all into Morgan’s since it started there and she has a vision. I changed descriptions as necessary while trying to stay as true to the original as possible. The rest of the scene that was pulled from in-session RP was a bit easier. I also looked to the Blueshift equivalent scene for possible improvements as well, bringing in details and descriptions that also made sense for the canon scene to give it a little more life.

After that was Dmitri’s scene contemplating his actions in the last session. For this one, I added some bits about his brother, which was something from his backstory that was never brought up or mentioned in game except the one part where it came up later in the volume. In order to make that part less out of left field, I added a mention of it here too. If I had thought of it, I might have also added a mention in Chapter 0 as well to make it flow a bit better, but I think this works well enough.

The following scene I decided to split in two. Alex’s reaction right after Dmitri’s scene is now it’s own scene with some added details about her Lucario to tie her feelings together a bit more. Having a scene break there also made the transition to the next part better and makes the passage of time seem more reasonable for their trip since it leads right into them arriving. From that point on, the touching up became a bit more typical, with just some rewording of things to flow better and a couple extra bits of dialogue.
