Welcome back to the Friday Open Forum! I’m your host, DisturbedShadow!
Another week down in 2021 and another crazy thing going on already. It’s like 2020 is still clinging to life! This time, Redditors broke the stock market with GameStop stock. Normally I don’t talk too much about current events in the Open Forum, but this seemed relevant to the things we like to talk about on TAY even if only slightly. Pretty crazy that rich people have been manipulating the market for years without consequence, but as soon as the regular folk get a piece of the action it’s suddenly time to regulate things.
Anyway, what’s new for you? Here are some topics for today:
- How has your week been?
- What’s your take on the GameStop situation?
- What’s an absurd thing to add to your 2021 bingo card that doesn’t seem so unlikely anymore?
- As always, feel free to Talk Amongst Yourselves about anything!
Here’s your Morning Jam!

**_- How has your week been?_**
I am just glad that the weekend is here, for it was a rough week on my end. We had a series of strong storms blow into my neck of the woods over the past six days, and it brought a ton of rain, snow, high winds, and power outages to our area (we got three inches of rain at my place, the mountains got between four to nine feet of snow, and over 12,000 people lost the power when several large power outages took place after the high winds broke branches and toppled trees). We spent the majority of the week at the TV station I work at on "Severe Weather Watch", which involves a ton of live shots, weather video, and I was tasked with shipping all of our weather video to every network we are partnered with (NBC News Channel, CBS Newspath, CNN News Source, The Weather Channel, and the affiliates KCRA & KDRV). Sending hundreds of gigabytes of video content to all of the networks was frustrating (had to sacrifice my dinner break on Tuesday and Wednesday), but at least I don't have to worry about it for a few days.

It's been crazy (and somewhat amusing) to watch it unfold. Since I work in the news industry, we have been covering it all week (ran three packages and multiple VSV's regarding the topic). At least the memes that have spawned from this have been pretty awesome (for the most part):

With how insane, crazy, and awful the past year or so has been, I sadly don't think we can count anything out anymore....
If I had to choose, I'd say Elon Musk finally discovers a way to bring our beloved anime waifus to life (or at the very least, make neko [cat] girls a reality).
