TAY: Open Forum – Back in Business

Art by JoeyJazz

And so ends the first week of our all new TAY.

It’s amazing that G/O only just pulled the rug out from under us on Monday, and we’re already back on our feet in our all new space. It’s so nice to see our community rallying together to carry on like this. After the insane past few weeks I’ve had, it’s revitalizing.

The day after my last Open Forum on the old TAY, I began the process of getting my new gaming PC up and running and getting my files moved over from my old laptop. The day after that I awoke to discover that my external HDD I was using to move files over had corrupted and I had lost close to 500GB of stuff that I had mistakenly cut/pasted onto the drive instead of copying. After a grueling process of first figuring out what had happened, running recovery software several times before it finally worked properly, waiting on a new external drive to arrive, and a whole lot of stress, I managed to recover all that was lost and get it all moved to the new PC. After that ordeal, you bet I made a backup of my important files on the new external drive.

Speaking of backing up, as soon as all that was done, I had to jump right into backing up my TAY posts as during those few days it was announced that all user-run blogs on Kinja were being shut down on Monday. Fortunately, most of my writing was already saved in the form of Google Docs after TAY’s future was first called into question during the Gawker lawsuit back in 2016. There were still a few more recently written pieces that I needed to save, and then a whole bunch of comments on my Spacemon posts that I wanted to archive with screenshots. I finished that whole process on Sunday, which was fortunate because TAY was gone early Monday afternoon.

At this point, I’m slowly putting up all the articles I’ve written over my years on TAY on this new site. I’m doing a few at a time every day so it isn’t overwhelming, but that does mean it’s going to take a while. I’m also deciding on whether or not to put my Spacemon series on this site or not. It lives on other locations already and I’m not sure if it would be a liability if we decide to do something more with the site.

Anyway, enough of my rambling. Here are some topics for today:

  • How are you adapting to the new space?
  • What’s the worst computer issue you’ve ever had?
  • What’s your gaming setup like?
  • As always, feel free to Talk Amongst Yourselves about anything else!
