Tay Open Forum – I’m on a train

Hiya Tay!

At this moment writing this I am sitting on train towards home to my family. I did not think that this would happen really. At the end of november I pretty much told my family I was not going to come. But I did manage to get a few days of work. So been isolated in my apartment for 4 days now. And the train I am going with is only half full with people. So I got plenty of space for myself. So at this point I do feel pretty safe. Even if I guess there is always a risk.

That means I had a lot time playing games recently, and Cyperpunk 2077 has taken a lot of my time even this week. The game has grown on me despite all the drama surrounding the game. It is a buggy mess. I have seen people talking while they are dead, cars driving around in circles, people falling from the sky out of nowhere. But the most annoying bug is related to the interface. If there is something going on in the interface right after you reload from a checkpoint, like subtitles, that line of dialogue might get stuck on screen for the rest of the game. This happens to me constantly. Despite having subtitles of. To solve this I have to go into the settings and turn on and of subtitles. But despite all this, the game works on PC. It never crashes for me, and I have never had a bug so far that makes me stuck. So even if I wouldn’t say I find these kinds of bugs acceptable for a game at this price, it is not worst that I have experienced. (Fallout: New Vegas and Vampire: Bloodlines takes that price, ended up liking those games anyway.)

But I am really getting into the story of the game. I complained last week that the side quests of this game does not seem as good as they were in Witcher 3. I have changed my mind about that. They are really good. Like maybe better than the main story because they offer more personal moments with the character you meet. You are in fact going to miss a large part of this entire game if you don’t do the side quests. It just takes a while for them to get started. The game is also cluttered with more minor tasks like gang related quests that are more like “side side quests”, or “gigs” as the game calls them. These you can ignore completely unless you wanna make some quick cash.

Other than that I have filled my time with Vrchat and Hunt: Showdown. Honestly after 4 days of isolation it is going to be nice with a break from games. Hope you all have some nice holidays!

**What are your plans for this week?**
Going to my fiancee’s parents house. I might be most excited to see her brother’s dog. We bonded over the summer when we all quarantined at their parents’ shore house for a few months when we all needed a change from our apartments. I haven’t see her since August so I’m excited to play with her again. We also got her a few new toys for Christmas so it’ll be fun to play with them with her.

**What do you prefer, planes or trains?**
Definitely planes because of the speed. I guess that’s if it’s somewhere far. Trains are fine. I had definitely taken more trains and buses before all of this. I won’t be taking either until the pandemic is over / I’m vaccinated though. I do miss having a car sometimes. That made traveling so much easier.

**Or talk about anything.**
I’m excited to finish off Alan Wake so that I can then finish off Control. I had asked for Cyberpunk 2077 for Christmas / Hanukkah but I’m not as excited to play that next as I was before release (if I do get it). I’ll probably wait until the February patch they announced. I’ll be playing on an Xbox One X so I’m hoping it won’t be as bad as the reports of it being on the base Xbox One but I’ll guess we’ll see. I got three Xbox One games on Black Friday and I already beat Fast & Furious Crossroads and mostly finished up Control so maybe I’ll play the third game which is Maneater. Looks like it will be a silly fun game.

Stay safe on your trip and enjoy your holidays!

@peepso_user_35(RealmofDarthon) I recommend giving Max payne 2 a chance. You can get it for a few coins today and it is a really short game. Like the sort you can finish in one night. But it is pretty damn fun.

@peepso_user_37(Slinker) I actually have it on PS2 somewhere at my parents’ house. I bought it was back in the day after beating Max Payne and I remember playing the very beginning of the game but I put it down for some reason and never went back. So I guess my previous comment wasn’t entirely correct. I beat 1 and 3 but never played more than an hour 2 for some reason. I may need to dig it out and play it someday soon. With my work being remote now I actually quarantined at my parents house for 3+ weeks in the fall so maybe I’ll do that again and bust out the PS2 while I’m there. I have a library of classics just sitting around for it

Happy Christmas Eve, everyone! It's hard to believe that we have almost reached the end of the year after suffering through so many months of hardship and loss due to the horrors of the Coronavirus pandemic. Just eight more days until we can finally take this god-awful year known as 2020 and banish it to the pages of the history books in what will go down as one of the worst years in human history.

**_- What are your plans for this week?_**
Well, outside of being stuck at work later tonight (Christmas Eve) and pulling a double shift on Friday (Christmas Day), I don't have much going on this week. Thankfully, I will be getting double OT ($26 a hour for 15 hours) for all of the work I have to do on Friday, so I will get a pretty big chunk of change out of having to work on Christmas Day.

I do plan on spending a good chunk of time with my family on Saturday (we are having lunch together at their place since I am unable to be with them on Christmas Day). I also will try to get in several hours of gaming this upcoming weekend (most of it will take place on Saturday night, a few hours on Sunday night as well).

**_- What do you prefer, planes or trains?_**
Personally, I prefer trains over planes. Back in the days of my youth (from age 5 to age 13), railroading (and all things involved with it) was one of my biggest passions. I live in Northern California, so back in those days (up until around the summer of 1997), the four to seven freight trains that rumbled through town each day were headed by locomotives of the legendary **_Southern Pacific Railroad_** **(SP)**, sporting those classic "Bloody Nose" paint schemes that the SP was famous for. Below are two examples of the types of SP locomotives that used to operate in my neck of the woods when I was a kid:

Unfortunately, the _Southern Pacific_ merged with the **_Union Pacific Railroad_** **(UP)** in 1996, which meant the slow phasing out of the _Southern Pacific_ locomotives and the introduction of the traditional _Union Pacific_ locomotives (painted in their yellow, silver, and red paint scheme) to our area. Up until the summer of 2003 (when I was still 12 at that time), you would still see a couple of old, worn-down SP locomotives (with their grey and red paint slowly fading) being used by UP in their freight trains every few weeks where I live. The last time that I saw one of the old _Southern Pacific_ locomotives was during the winter of 2006 (the paint job was very faded and some rust was poking through parts of the paint on the sides). It looked something like what you see below (this is an old **_Cotton Belt_** **[SSW]** locomotive that featured the same "Bloody Nose" paint scheme the _Southern Pacific_ locomotives had, now extremely faded after 20+ years of hard work with no repaint outside of the UP patches added to it):

Anyway, I kind of rambled on long enough. In short, I prefer trains over planes due to how much I was interested in all things railroading when I was a young lad.

**_- ..or talk about anything!_**
Apparently, **_Kentucky Fried Chicken_** decided to go out and make a custom gaming PC (in partnership with **_Cooler Master_**) that features a special compartment where the heat generated by the Intel processor and Nvidia graphics card is used to keep fried chicken (two pieces at a time) warm while you game. One of my coworkers told me about it during my shift on Tuesday, and I thought they were joking. Well, I guess 2020 will just keep on being 2020, because it is a real thing...(see trailer and image below):
