Tay Open Forum – Nature and stuff

Sup Tay!

This weekend it started to snow for real for the first time in Stockholm. That encouraged me to take a really long walk through a forest path nearby. Walking in the forest while snow is falling is sort of magical. I feel I am in a Disney movie. Walking I sort of realize again that I would like to try to do hiking at some point. I sent a text to my brother asking if he would be interested doing that in the future. And he was. So I am hoping we can plan something together. I enjoy my brothers company even if we don’t hang out much, and I think this is the thing we would have a common interested in. He did mention that I need to exercise for it. Which is true. I want to believe I am pretty fit for it already. But taking a walk for a few hours without any issue might not be the same thing as walking the whole day with a backpack.

I watched a video about hiking in Japan, which has been stuck in my head for a while now. Even if I don’t think I am able to do that now, I think that would be a nice dream vacation at some point. Just to have that one long term goal.

Anyway. Here are some suggested topics for today:

  • What do you dream of doing right now?
  • Do you enjoy nature? Or just taking walk?
  • Which game has the best forest?
  • Or talk about anything.

I love walking but call it a hike and I'm out... Really, my ideal "hike" is a leisurely stroll from a restaurant where I just ate dinner to a bar for drinks. I'll take a short hike up a hill or down a trail, but camping? Backpacking??? No thank you, give me a fully stocked kitchen and a warm bed please.

I do love nature, though. I admit I'm a bit spoiled for natural splendor where I live in rural New England, I don't have to go far outside to see some gorgeous mountains or peaceful rivers or secluded ponds/lakes. I've lived in cities for a few years of my life and it taught me that I love my natural scenery and I don't want to give it up.

But speaking of forests in videogames, I started The Last of Us 2 last night and WOAH. I mean, we all knew Naughty Dog could make a nice looking game but I was still just slackjawed for the entire time I played. Absolutely stunningly gorgeous. I think the only games that I've played that could hold a candle to the natural environments in TLOU2 might be RDR2 and maybe Death Stranding.

For real, crunch time in videogame studios is an abomination and I hate it, but like.... HOLY FUCK that game. TLOU2 has been incredible so far, I am really stunned. Playing the first hour or so I was just in awe. The environments and details are incredible, but the ACTING and cinematography as well like... holy shit. Makes other AAA games feel lazy by comparison.

Hope you have a good week dude!

@peepso_user_12(pocoGRANDES) I grew up in suburban New England so I agree that the nature there is pretty awesome.

@peepso_user_37(Slinker) Yes, those sound like exactly my kind of hikes. I do enjoy a good walk, but add some food and drink to that equation and I'm really excited.

And yeah, RDR2 might have been worse because of the scale of the open world, the fact that there were just so many gorgeous bits of that map was just insane, you could literally ride off in any direction and see something incredible. For how amazing TLOU2 looks, it's pretty linear (so far), so I would imagine less work for the team. But, who's to say which was worse when both are bad and should feel bad.

Still, it's weird coming to terms with that. On one hand I do want to support the devs at Naughty Dog who have done INCREDIBLE work on this game. But then again, I am probably more supporting the executives with my purchase, who are probably the ones responsible for these practices in the first place... Sooooo that all sucks. I dunno what to think except that the game itself is Very Very Good.

Have a great week dude!

**What do you dream of doing right now?**
Being able to eat something while walking down the street. I mean I guess just being able to leave my apartment without having to wear a face mask is basically it.

**Do you enjoy nature? Or just taking walk?**
Nature is quite nice. It's always nice when I can escape the city and breathe fresher air. Taking a walk is definitely nice. Been doing a bit more of that in the past 10 months since I refuse to ride the subway at the moment so walking is the easiest / best way of transportation right now.

**Which game has the best forest?**
That's a good question and I'm not sure I have a good answer for it. Call of Duty: Black Ops III? I heard a lot about a frozen forest during the gameplay.

**Or talk about anything.**
One more day of work after today and then I get a 5 day weekend thanks to the Monday holiday. Good reward after working 10 days in a row and a bunch of OT yesterday and today. I'm excited to relax and play some games and do a little more wedding planning.

@peepso_user_35(RealmofDarthon) Hiya Darthon!

I actually have not worn a mask until very recently. It was never a demand here in Sweden until 2 months ago. Now I wear it in the subway and at work. Not had anything against the idea of wearing it, just didn't need to.

Yeah. Going out of walks has for some reason increased a lot the pass 10 months for me aswell for some reason. XD

I can see that Call of Duty has some nice forests. My favorite forest in a video game is actually Dayz standalone. There is so much to dislike about that game. But how the forest is designed is really nice. It is so large, thick and detailed. Spent a lot of time in that game just doing small hikes because I like surviving in the forest.

What games will you play these 5 days? 🙂

@peepso_user_37(Slinker) I'm located in New York City which was the worst place in the country as the beginning of this and I work in news so all I ever saw were the terrible effects from it so definitely have had a mask on since the beginning. I had no idea everyone here was spread out so far around the world. Sweden. South Africa. USA. All over.

I should try DayZ at some point. I think it's available on Game Pass so worth it for free.

Over the next five days I'll probably finish up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's campaign mode and clean up a few extra achievements on it. Then maybe start Maneater after that. Probably some Forza Horizon 2 since I'm trying to finish up a few achievements in that as well. I'm also maybe a third of the way through Bioshock on my Switch and I want to try out the demo for Wrestling Empire while the game is one sale. It looks like the wrestling games I used to play on my Nintendo 64. I loved those games so hopefully it plays like them as well. I'm sure I'll dabble in a few other little things but mostly these I think.
