TAY! Weekend!!! Whatcha Playing?

Zombie Stomp!

Happy Weekend TAY!

I hope everyone is safe and healthy this weekend.  Is it too early to start selling “At Least It’s Not 2020” T-Shirts?

I didn’t play a lot last week as I’ve been trying to reorganize my tiny storage area in our house.  I’m a terrible packrat so a lot of the overflow is my fault.  I mean, you never know when you might need two Sega Activators right?

I played a pinch of Blood: Fresh Supply and a dash of Remnant: From the Ashes last week. However, what I mainly played (with what little time I had) was The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners on PSVR.

Saints & Sinners is a survival game at heart and feels like the devs really understood what was great in Silent Hill and Resident Evil.  It feels most like Ubisoft’s Zombi (which I also loved) but it is the motion controls that put Saints & Sinners on a whole other level of gruesome.

For instance, you can grab a single walker’s head in either hand with simple timing. If you are quick enough to catch hold, you can then punch a screwdriver into  their skull with your other hand.

The game says you only need to provide enough range of motion to pierce the zombie’s skull, but I find my reaction is to also swing it quickly and with force.  Through visual and haptic feedback, you quickly learn what type of wind up you need to crack that nut.

But that’s not all folks!

Your screwdriver is then embedded into the skull of the undead and you have to apply forceful motion in the opposite direction to free your weapon.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is extremely immersive but also more real than anything I’ve done before in VR. I could see it being disturbing for some people to play.  Combined with the vibration feedback and the realistic physics, you really feel like you are living in a zombie apocalypse.

I’m looking forward to a weekend with the family and getting through our infinite movie backlog.  I’ve also been watching bits and pieces of my kid playing Bioshock and I love seeing how much he enjoys it.   It is a masterpiece of video gaming.

So, what are you playing this weekend?
