TAY2: Open Forum – Worth The Wait

What’s up everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend, and spent it doing things you love. Whether that’s gaming, watching your favorite series or what have you. Unfortunately, for most of us Monday means back to work so I hope I can brighten up your day with a little Open Forum fun.

I was a little under the weather last week, and when I wasn’t sleeping it off I got a little bit of gaming in. I have not quite had time to get my PC set up and running, so I’ve mostly been doing lighter gaming on my Switch and my phone until I can get that going.

It’s not so bad, I’ve been playing Fantasian on Apple Arcade and while it’s not exactly groundbreaking it’s a good time if you want an enjoyable RPG to play on your phone. The battle mechanics are quite satisfying, and lend themselves very well to the touch interface. The story is decent enough, so all in all I’m having a good time with it.

To be honest, there isn’t a lot I’m looking forward to on PC at the moment so I’m not in a huge rush to get that going. What I am looking forward to, however, are a couple of the games Nintendo showed off last week, in particular Metroid Dread. I know it’s not the Metroid we all wanted, but it’s exciting to have something new and unexpected from the franchise. I’m still hoping for a Prime Trilogy port, but I can wait on that.

Shin Megami Tensei V is also exciting, being one of the first games they teased for the system with very little hype or information in between. Perhaps it’s better that way, but probably it’s only well established franchises like SMT that don’t really need much hype. I just hope it’s worth the wait.

  • Name a game that was worth waiting for?
  • Which game was not worth the wait? (*cough* *cough* Cyberpunk *cough*) I guess my flu hasn’t entirely cleared up.
  • Feel free to elaborate on why these games were or were not worth waiting for

Confession: I still have not played Mass Effect even though it's pretty much the perfect kind of game for me. Sci Fi? Check. RPG? Check. Branching story with choices that matter? Check. I'm kind of ashamed.

To me, FFXV is a very pretty game to look at but I found it kind of boring to play and didn't find myself invested in the characters. Maybe I'll give it another go one of these days.. I may have been too hard on it the first time around.

@peepso_user_16(Stray) I highly recommend Mass Effect. 2 is an amazing game and 1 and 3 are both really really good as well. There's a new remaster right now as well so should be easy to play.

@peepso_user_35(RealmofDarthon) I've picked up the remaster and played through ME1 and it works great! Would be the best way for any newcomers to the series.

You know I can't think of too many games that I was really excited for that ended up being worth the wait. Resident Evil 7 was pretty fantastic all around and exceeded my expectations which were already pretty high based on that demo. I was real excited for RE8 but it hasn't QUITE lived up to what I was hoping for like RE7 did. A lot of that is because RE8 makes me motion sick which is something that has never happened to me before. What's funny is this is a common thing apparently and a very early mod was to allow change to the FOV which fixes it for most people. I have just been to lazy to the point where we have finished the game now where I've been queasy the entire time hahahahah.
