Thankful Thursday XII: May All Your Dreams Come True

I haven’t done one of these in a while, and I quite enjoyed them so here we go again – Started by ThePickyGamer way back when on OG TAY during one of the last community events I remember from that time – SixTAY Days of Writing! For those of you who don’t know or remember, it was a community challenge to write a piece, no matter how good or bad, every day for 60 days.

It didn’t matter if it was a super low effort piece, there were more than a few of those, but those events remain some of my favorite memories. There were a lot of interesting, unique and honest articles written, it was also nice to hop on TAY every day and find several new posts to read. Some people actually completed the challenge!

I’m not about to propose we revive that, but I would like to take this opportunity to practise some active gratitude. That last SixTAY Days was started early due to the widespread lockdowns, and Picky (Joseph Stanichar) came up with the idea in an effort to help us TAYters cope with the lockdown.

Starting early was fortunate, because it was only a couple of months later when the original TAY was shut down and there was a valiant team effort, spearheaded by Aikage, to migrate to our new site. Most everyone who is active in the community pitched in, but I’m sure we can all agree that Furbs did most of the heavy lifting.

I asked in one of my most recent Open Forums about games that are unlikely to receive any attention that you seriously hope will get the attention they deserve. I mentioned Chrono Cross – and lo, we are getting the remake I have been yearning for in years, mere months from now. Atlus sneakily dropped a countdown website for Soul Hackers mere days before it’s launch, Earthbound has arrived on SNES Online, Klonoa is even getting some attention. This is all fantastic news, and I find all of these announcements particularly exciting!

I cannot wait to see what the rest of the year holds, there are already such great games we know about and these last couple of weeks we’ve had a few nice surprises. Just like I was hoping for!

Anyway, the whole point of this article is to practice active gratitude so let’s get to it! for those who don’t remember, or don’t know, I’m asking you to tell me about 3 things you are grateful for: Big picture, like something good for humanity, smaller picture, something insignificant or personal that warms your heart, and finally something obvious like breathing or having opposable thumbs. Let’s get to it then –

Bigger Picture: It’s finally starting to seem like the worst of this pandemic is over, and while I think it would be foolish to get too complacent just yet people and the world in general seem to moving more towards normalisation.

Smaller Picture: I had a great day at work today, it was very productive and the teamwork was incredible. Not every day can be like this, but it’s always nice and I hope I have many more like this.

Obvious: I am very privileged to be writing this, to have experienced all of these things. Life ain’t perfect, but I am okay.

Over to you – What are you Thankful for this Thursday?
