TAY Open Forum: Breaking The Law

Hiya TAY, I hope you all had a great weekend! Welcome to your Monday Open Forum!

I didn’t do a hell of a lot this weekend, mostly I just goofed off and played Yakuza 0. This is my first time playing a Yakuza game, and I’m sure you can tell that I am quite enjoying it because I spent so much time playing it this weekend.

What really sucked me in with Yakuza 0 is the gripping and dramatic story. Sure, the combat is fun and I like doing the goofy side-quests but it’s been a little while since any particular video game has piqued my interest in this fashion.

Quite a few people over on the TAY Discord enjoy the Yakuza series, and after a few months of seeing it come up every so often and watching Hatman stream a few times, I decided to download it and give it a try.

I’m glad I decided to try it, the Yakuza series has shown up on my radar a few times over the years but with so many of them it’s always intimidating getting into a series when it’s been around for a while. That said, sometimes it can be super rewarding when you discover new characters and stories that you grow to love.

I always find it difficult to get into something new, but once it grips me, I’m all in! Something I really enjoy about Yakuza is the variety of entertaining minigames. Sure, loads of games have minigames, but I don’t remember ever being excited to play golf again in GTAV.

I’m looking forward to playing some more Yakuza games down the road, but for now, 0 has me hooked.

This got me wondering, what do real Yakuza think of Yakuza? Naturally, I wasn’t the first to ask this question.

Anyway, let’s get down to business!

  • Are there any games on your radar that you’ve been itching to try, but haven’t got around to?
  • Have you ever invested in a game only to find that you’re disappointed several hours in?
  • Are there any games that you’re intimidated to try? For instance, the Trails series really appeals to me but I’m afraid of how they might end up consuming my life!
  • Bonus Question: If you’ve played Yakuza 0, who’s your favorite character and why?
  • As always, feel free to Talk Amongst Yourselves!
