Sup all!
So after mentioning in Open Forum a few times that I would like to have an event for Tay in Vrchat, with an overwhelming amount of almost ZERO response from the community… I decided to give it an try anyway. 🙂
So why Vrchat?
It is a free game that anyone can download with a PC or an Oculus quest. Despite the name of the game, VR is not required. In fact the majority of players do not use VR at all. VR does give it an extra immersion, but it is not a necessity.
But… why Vrchat?
Because it is a fun game to just chat in and available for everyone with an adequate computer. Despite being infamous on youtube for its madness and trolls, the actual thing is what you make of it. It is an open platform similar to Second life. But a lot more accessible in my opinion. The SDK is also easy to use to develop your own stuff. So there are plenty of things to explore in Vrchat. I’ve spent more than 1000 hours in Vrchat and the large majority of that time I just talk with friends and explore new worlds that are constantly being. For me personally it is a relaxing experience unlike anything that is out there.
How do I join?
First of write in the comments here that you want to join. If you are planning to join with an Oculus quest tell me ahead. (This might be a problem, but we’ll work around it.) Then download vrchat from Steam, Oculus store, or from its website. Start the game. Go to settings. Click on social. Search for ”TheSlinker” and add me as a friend. Then during the event click on social. Then click on me, and request an invite.
So what will we do?
My plan is that we will explore two worlds, find a will find a good spot, and then just talk. Like an live Open Forum. I will pick a few subjects ahead of time to warm you up. But otherwise anything goes. Right now there is two gaming related worlds I have in mind for us to visit:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
This is a very recently released world but it is easily among the best worlds I have seen in Vrchat. Someone has pretty much recreated the entire beginning of Breath of the wild in unity with an scary amount of accuracy. If you ever wanted to see breath of the wild in first person this is it. Containing a lot of good places to hang around it… Unless Nintendo shuts it down. XD
Silent hill 2
A world created by yours truly. It does not have the same level of quality as Breath of the wild. But is regardless a pretty popular world to hang around in. This world contains a large part of the entire game of Silent hill 2 along with the music and some events from the game. There are no jumpscares. But some spooky events can happen. For a PS2 game the 3D assets still holds up well when you view in first person. For any fan of the game it is an interesting experience to view from another perspective. I also have added a few spots only meet for people to go to and chill.
Okay I am in. But how will I get a cool avatar?
New accounts can’t upload an avatars instantly. Your best bet is to find something others have made. When you start the game you can go to ”avatars” from the setting, and there you will find a ”avatar worlds” containing worlds where you can look at others people avatars uploaded publicly for everyone. Looking through there for something that might interest you. Another advice is that if you are looking for avatar from a specific game or other franchise you can try to search for it in worlds.
I am sold. I can’t believe that I am saying this. But when will this take place?
