TAY2: Open Forum – Back In Business

What’s up TAY! It’s been a little while since I’ve been able to post my usual Monday forum, but I’m back. I hope you are all well and staying healthy out there.

It’s been a bit of a rough month for me, but things seem to be calming down and I am in a much better headspace so it’s time to start doing the things I enjoy again, one of them being writing here and elsewhere. I haven’t done much of gaming lately, but I started getting into Pokemon GO again on account of my sister starting to play it with my little nephew.

I last played it way back in 2016 when it came out. That was a cool time, all us Pokemon nerds had our time to shine as all the regular folks who had either forgotten about it or otherwise moved on in life were reintroduced to some of their favorite childhood characters.

Pokemania is always something I will remember fondly – the GameBoy was at the height of it’s popularity, trading cards were all the rage and the watching the anime after school was an unmissable daily event.

It was nice to relive those glory days for a little while with the advent of Pokemon GO. Coming back to it now has also been quite interesting – they have added a boat load of stuff to the game that makes it more engaging and social. It’s also easier to stock up on items, and you get research missions that keep things a little interesting. It’s become something of a timewaster for me, when I have to stand in a queue or spend time idly waiting around at the license department I’ll toss a couple pokeballs. I’ve gotten a few funny looks and questions, but I don’t care. (Is that game still going? Aren’t you too old to be playing Pokemon?)

It’s always nice to revisit a game to find a whole bunch of new content and things to do, and I think I’ll have a lot of that to look forward to as I get back into the groove in the coming weeks.

Anyway, time for ye olde OF questions!

  • What’s your favorite timewaster, and why?
  • How do you remember Pokemania?
  • Do you think we will ever see something gain such wild popularity ever again?
  • As always, feel free to Talk Amongst Yourselves!

**What’s your favorite timewaster, and why?**
Typically Reddit or Instagram are my go to phone things though I do play Retro Bowl and MLB Manager 2018 as well. Lately I've been trying to fill in all the movies I've watched in Letterboxd.

**How do you remember Pokemania?**
Fondly. I've been playing Pokemon since I got Blue when it first came out. It's a series I love and try to play a game in each generation.

**Do you think we will ever see something gain such wild popularity ever again?**
Definitely. There's always room for the next big thing.

Watched Army of the Dead over the weekend. It was a fun zombie movie. Definitely worth a watch if you have Netflix. I'm really loving this thing of big movies releasing at home on day 1. I'll be back at theaters to see some movies but having the option is awesome.
