TAY2.org Posting Guidelines

Purpose

These guidelines will ensure that all work posted to TAY2.org meets a minimum acceptable standard for published work.  Failure to follow these rules will result in posts being converted to draft with editorial comments added to assist in correcting missing/incorrect information.

Rules

All posts must have a Title

Self explanatory, all posts to TAY2.org must contain a title.  The sole exception are PSA excerpts posted by admin staff to alert users to a site related issue.

All posts must have a Featured Image

All posts, whether containing an image or not must have a feature image specified prior to, or shortly after posting.  Featured images should relate to the material posted in some manner.  To add a featured image from the Gutenberg editor click the settings cog in the top right of the page and click “post” underneath if it’s not selected.  Scroll down the sidebar until you see the featured image section.  For Elementor editing click the settings cog in the lower left of the screen and the featured image option is right there in the new pane.

All images must contain Alt-Text.

Alt text is used by screen readers to assist in page navigation.  A central tenant of TAY2.org is to be as accessible to everyone and use of this text helps to uphold that philosophy.  Adding alt text is as easy as entering a description of the image under the “alt-text” box when you upload media.

Posts must be reasonably formatted

Use columns, spacers, headings, quotes, and breakout text appropriately.  There’s no expectation that everyone have attended a technical writing class, however an effort should be apparent to make text clean and easy to read.  Ask an editor for help if needed, that’s why we’re here.

Posts must not be “uncategorized”

By default all posts are categorized as “uncategorized”  this needs to be switched from the Gutenberg editor using the “post” settings sidebar.  Select an appropriate category or categories.  Tags are optional but help with SEO and further categorization.  If anyone has figured out how to change category in Elementor please let me know.

Please publish as draft and notify an editor if you are writing cornerstone content

As this content is held to higher standards than day to day posts and will be the featured article for a period of time, it is necessary that additional oversight is given to the piece.  Anyone is free to write cornerstone content.  If you need help with an idea, or fleshing out a story, contact an Editor.  Some great examples of cornerstone content are Nior’s posts.

In general, Editors will not attempt to police grammar or content unless it is egregious.  If an editor switches your content to draft and makes comments, do your best to address those comments in a timely manner.  If you need help fixing things let us know.  Once your corrections are made it is imperative that you respond to the editorial comment.  You can do this by editing your post and then scrolling down to the publishpress section underneath your post.

In closing

These rules are a set of guidelines to make the quality of posts on TAY2 meet a minimum acceptable standard.  You are free to go above and beyond what is written here (using Yoast SEO suggestions will help make your post visible to search engines, for example).  If you do not follow these rules there is no banning or kicking you as a user off the site.  The worst outcome is that your post will be switched to draft and you will be notified by email that you have a correction to make.  We will never delete your content unless it violates the site rules (hate speech, doxing, etc.)  If you have any questions or comments regarding these rules please contact Aikage.

If you need a quick look at the site rules they can be found in the “about us” link in the footer or by clicking here.

I think excerpts should also be a thing, just a small introduction paragraph to give readers an idea of what your article is about

@peepso_user_16(Stray) These are 100% great. I will add it to this post as an optional so people are at least AWARE of them. I'm guilty of not filling it out sometimes but it really helps for SEO stuff as well since it's what will show up in the search result vs. "OVERVIEW I AM AN OVERVIEW HEADING2 TEXT"
