TAY: Open Forum – Cute Little Paradise

*logs into TAY2 to write my Open Forum for the week, sees that everything looks different from what it did just earlier that day* New site, who dis?

Ahh, on second look, it’s still the same good ol’ TAY! I’m definitely in the right place, then; welcome to today’s Open Forum. This one is brought to you by me remembering that the charming little game Tiny Islands, by David King, exists.

One random day on Twitter, someone (Errant Signal’s Chris Franklin, I believe) retweeted an announcement for this adorable-looking game with a hand-drawn style. Helping its case was the fact that it came out around the same time as another island-building game, Islanders, that was similarly focused on arranging land and sea landmarks in pursuit of high scores. Further helping its case was that unlike Islanders, which cost money and risked potentially being too powerful for my six-year-old laptop to handle, Tiny Islands was totally free and could be played in a browser!

Thus, I got into it. Not like extremely into it to the point of addiction, mind you; it’s far too low-key to rise to that level. But into it enough to check back into it every now and then, seeing how many points I could squeeze out of all these cute little land formations.

I don’t even know what reminded me of Tiny Islands two years after the fact, but I’m glad that happened. Playing it again confirms that it continues to be such a chill, simple delight. Sometimes, that is precisely what a given day may call for.

Today’s questions:

  • A challenge! Get all up in Tiny Islands, play the Daily Shuffle for today–March 4, 2021–and post the island you come up with!
  • Assuming that us humans eventually do collectively get a true handle on this deadly worldwide disease business, and it’s finally safe to travel to faraway places and actually do things again, what would be your little getaway place? Whether for vacation or just as a day trip?
  • Are there any extra relaxing, extra small, purely chill games that you turn to when you want to bring things down a good five to ten notches?

And, as always, Talk Amongst Yourselves!

Posted! Not a great score but it's my first go at it. I'm sure I can do better.

Probably Italy? It's my fiancee's favorite place and she would love to go back there. So probably there, haha.

I played a bit of Stardew Valley to try and get this vibe but I don't know if that worked for me. I think it's probably doing something like playing God of War on easy mode and just wreaking havoc without having to worry about enemies doing anything to you. Basically going around on god mode and kicking ass is my chill game.

Ha that was neat I sucked at it though.

in the case of traveling once things calm down I don't even know anymore every place seems kinda poo but that may be the depression talking and my cursed timing i got my passport approved and received it back in late 2019 before all the poo hit the fan

Stardew Valley, and Mixolumia have been my latest chill session games to go to
