TAY: Open Forum – Come Sale Away

Welcome to Thursday times, everyone!

Things over here have been mostly business as usual, but there was one excellent development lately that has me happy. This Monday, April 19, was when the whole United States opened up eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine to everyone 16 and older. Perhaps (not) coincidentally, that was the same day when my wife and I were finally able to schedule vaccine appointments, and do so as early as just one day later.

Which meant that we spent our 4/20 not doing any blazing of any kind, but getting the first of the two Pfizer vaccine doses, followed by nursing our very sore arms afterwards as a result of the side effects. We’re finally part of the way there! Now to just wait three weeks to get that second dose, then suffer through whatever side effect hell follows it. After another two weeks–by the end of May–we’ll officially be fully vaccinated! FINALLY, I’ll be safe and secure enough to get that damn haircut I’ve needed for a year.

Like, look at this???

In other news, word of some indie-related sale in the Nintendo Switch eShop–related to their recent indie showcase, I believe–got me checking out what sorts of deals they currently had on game downloads. I managed to snag a couple of good ones for thoroughly reasonable prices!

First was the OlliOlli: Switch Stance collection with both OlliOlli games, going for a mind-bending 80% off at $2.99. I have a soft spot for skateboarding games cultivated by a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater-filled childhood, and I when I heard about the first OlliOlli years ago, I thought it looked interesting. Thus, this sale marked itself as arguably THE perfect opportunity to finally check it out.

My second acquisition was PAC-MAN Championship Edition 2 Plus, which was 60% off at $7.99. I fell head over heels for the visual and auditory sensory overload of both the original Championship Edition and DX, so getting the sequel–for the Switch! At such a good price!–was a no-brainer. I’m glad to finally have it in my collection!

Now, I am fully aware that game sales can be incredibly dangerous, given the temptations they offer up. Fortunately, I had excellent restraint this time.

Today’s questions:

  • Have you taken advantage of any game sales recently?
  • If you could extensively remix or reinterpret any single arcade game, i.e. give it something like the PAC-MAN Championship Edition treatment, which one would it be? And how would this modernized retro rehash play?
  • What’s your head and face situation looking like these days?

And, as always, Talk Amongst Yourselves!

**Have you taken advantage of any game sales recently?**
I have been taking advantage for Switch games. I got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe back on March 10th for the Mar10 sale. Actually now that I look back I got quite a few games on sale in March. Neo Cab. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Gold Edition. Rimelands: Hammer of Thor. Akane. Lots of different things to play.

That's a tough question. I really have no idea for this one. I do love when they remix things like the Nintendo remix game I used to play on 3DS.

**What’s your head and face situation looking like these days?**
the usual since I just shave my head so now I do it at home instead of having someone else do it at a barber shop.

I am sucked into Road to the Show mode in MLB: The Show 21. They start you off as a two way player like Shohei Ohtani and it's awesome. I'm a much better pitcher than hitter so far but still not a bad hitter. It's going to be fun building up my player and eventually making it to the show. I also finished up the prologue to Cyberpunk 2077 and I can't wait to get into the more open world section and start playing the full story.

The last game I bought was in March, it was a used copy of Bayonetta for the Xbox 360 because I didn't have it and as much as I like Bayonetta, I had never played it firsthand. Also, Steam is doing its best to drive me into madness because I had to fix some things with the Kaiju Crush file and now nothing is working and I cannot for the life of me figure out why.
